California Waters

A few boats are cruising the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara while huge oil rigs pump the Dos Cuadras Offshore Oil Field laying 8 miles (13 km) off the shore of California. Their success turned to disaster in 1969, when large quantities of oil began to leak. The resulting oil slick came ashore along 35 miles (56 km) of coastline and turned public opinion against offshore drilling in California.
