After a one way 5-mile hike (8 km) on the lava field south of the island of Hawaiʻi, in Hawaii, nature puts on a show when lava from the Kīlauea volcano's 61g lava flow reaches the Pacific Ocean and creates a gigantic plume of hazardous volcanic gases (sulfur dioxide and hydrochloric acid) puncuated by regular explosions of lava.
