A rainbow is visible above the lava cliffs of the Kīlauea's East Rift Zone lava flow field in the south of the island of Hawaiʻi, in Hawaii. Because Mauna Loa and Kīlauea are both active volcanoes, the island of Hawaiʻi is still growing. Between January 1983 and September 2002, lava flows added 543 acres (220 ha) to the island, the equivalent of Monaco.
