The Duomo di Milano is the cathedral church of Milan, in Italy. It took nearly six centuries to complete. It is the largest church in Italy and the third largest in the world. Hundreds of years of contrasting styles and quality of workmanship have been accumulated as 78 architects and engineers successively worked on it. Reactions to it have ranged from admiration to disfavour. Oscar Wilde visited Milan in June 1875 and in a letter to his mother he wrote: "The Cathedral is an awful failure.".
